9/25 Update Day 2 in the hospital
Good evening everyone!
Walker had a very good day! Woke up and was doing so much better he was awake attentive, giggling and smiling. The nurse we had yesterday was his nurse again today and said that he looks like a whole new kid. We met with the doctors for morning rounds and they were happy with how he looked as well. The plan that they came up with for the day;
-Get back to regular oxygen level of 21%
-See how he does there and start weening him down on the flow.
-Start feeds very slow and start getting him off the iv.
-Monitor him, do the steroid drops and let him heal.
-Consult ent on how long to stay on the steroids and see if they want to come look at him and come up with a longer term plan.
Walker was so much more energetic, he wanted to sit up and look around. We raised his bed up more under his head and he loved it. Brandi did get a lot snuggles with him today and he loved it. He is getting smart and rubbing his head against Brandi to try and get the cannula out of his nose, he has been successful a few times but we put it back in. He did start getting food around noon and has been doing great with it. Why they stopped his feeds was they were afraid of his acid reflux bringing food up and him aspirating with the high flow going.
He did get to room oxygen first thing in the morning and was doing great all day by 4 o’clock. They turned down his volume to 8 L and has been doing great ever since. We did give him a bath today and did get a string that we put above his bed and hung some toys so then he has something to look at and he loves it. He’s been smiling and talking to all of his toys that are over his bed.
We did talk to his doctor today and she is excited about his recovery at this point in time, she did go over a timeline with us on when he could go home. If he keeps going after the rate that he is right now we could possibly be coming home on Sunday, if it takes a little longer, she would not be surprised if he was here until Friday next week, I know that is a long timeframe, but they don’t want him to go home and have more complications. They would rather have him completely better than sending him home still have sick.
All in all he is doing much better and we feel like he is on the mend! He does still have a little bit of a hill to climb but our little warrior is still be a trooper! Will update everyone again tomorrow.
Thank you all for your thoughts prayers and love for our family!
Love Walker, Brandi, and Tyler
