3 months old today!
Good evening everyone!
Walker is 3 months old today! Holy cow how time is flying. Brandi and I are so excited that he is here with us and growing so fast. We had a very busy day for his 3 months old day. We were at children’s starting at 7:30 for a neurologist appointment were he weighed in at 6.36 kg (14 pounds!) and 24”! The neurologist checked his reflexes, strength and range of motion. With his big head we are going to have to start working on his neck exercises a little more that was the only place they said he needed some help but they are happy with how he is developing and said that we don’t need to schedule a follow up with them! What was very cool is one of the doctors that met Walker second day of life was there during this appointment. She also worked with him in the nicu for two weeks as well so it was very cool to see her as well and she was impressed with how big he has gotten!
We then had a couple hours before we had 6 different doctors that wanted to see him today between 1pm and 5 pm, luckily there are places to hang out at Children’s and spent some time out on the garden rooftop with him, the first place outside of the hospital he got to go. We then went down for the appointments and luckily we got a room where they would just all come in one after another.
First the feeding specialist said she likes how well he is drinking out of the bottle (fed him at this time) she liked that he wasn’t working to hard breathing and decided that he is ready to start using the next nipple size up for bottles. If that becomes to hard for him to just go back to the one he is on now. Told us to keep it up and happy to see improvements with him
We then met with one of the social workers at the hospital making sure we are doing by pod and checking on us which was awesome.
We then met with one of the ENT doctors and told us that he doesn’t think that Walker will need any surgery in his mid face due to his nasal passages growing and said that he is doing amazing. He will want to see him before the surgeries that way they can make sure to give him the right tube for surgery.
Next doctor was just over all how is he doing documenting everything since he has been discharged, making sure we are coordinated with the right people and make sure he is all good.
Finally we met with his G tube doctor. This was the one we all were waiting for today. Walker the past week or so hasn’t been doing so well with his feeds lately. We contacted her last week and talked about him getting over fed due to spitting up and vomiting. She told us to reduced his feeds over the weekend and let her know how he does. We gave her all that information today and came up with a good plan for him. At night continue his feeds every three hours through the G tube and get it close to 30 minutes of feeding, meaning we need to slowly increase his feed rate on the G tube. During the day don’t go more than 4.5 hours between feeds but let him give us signals that he wants to eat. Let him eat as much as he can with the bottle in 30 minutes and then supplement with to the g tube after. This is a great plan and will help us out a lot. Was tough seeing him throw up everyday.
We finished the day with that and felt like we had ran a marathon all day. We made it out of Seattle just in time for Walker to get to hot in his car seat and then freak out. We had the a/c on full blast and were shivering in the car. The Warrior is a real heating pad. He is always so warm! We had to stop and let him cool off and then ride home in his diaper. Mom and Dad were so tired from the day that we decided to go out to dinner and when we went to pay the server told us that someone in the restaurant anonymously paid for our dinner and didn’t want us to know who it was! We were both looking at each other going who would do this! I started to tear up because this kind gesture was so incredibly touching after such a long day being in the clinic with him.
I will add some other photos from this past month of him. It’s been a great few weeks here!
Love you all and hope everyone is staying safe in this heat!
