Full day 5/23
Happy Friday everyone!
We went down early today and got some good time with him was there for rounds and we have great news! He has been killing it! His levels are still good, has been kicking butt with the high flow! And he got bumped to 54ml of food today! They are gonna do another round of labs this evening and if that comes back good he is getting bumped to 58 m/l of food tomorrow. With that they don’t need to give him any fluids except his food and some meds!
Yesterday I did mention stuff about his picc line and did bring this up during rounds this morning and they did tell us that he is doing so good that we are gonna wait one more day to take that out till he is on full foods, so that will get taken out tomorrow. Respiratory assessment he is doing great left his levels the same on that today and going to stay like that today and maybe tomorrow, no more afrin for him and that’s why no changes with the high flow.
The boy has some lungs on him and not afraid to tell you when he is mad or upset. We have found either holding him or placing his pacifier in his mouth and holding for him works best. He is actually latching on the pacifier and sucking too so that’s great things for future stuff.
I got to hold him for an hour and a half then Brandi got him for a hour and a half then it was time for his 3 hour check up. My dad made it back down today and got to hold him today as he wanted to get held by someone and fell back asleep. While dad was holding him cranial facial stopped by to check on him and check for a cleft palate again and no signs of that which is great! The little warrior is impressing everyone now!
We did take off a little early today as Brandi has a follow up with the OB team to make sure she is getting better.
Walkers strides this week are nothing more than a miracle. He has impressed us and his team of doctors. He is getting there but still has a lone road ahead of him.
The next goals:
- get down to level 2 on the high flow
- once there start to learn the feeding process of sucking, swallowing, and breathing. We are hoping with how he is doing with the pacifier that this might be getting a little easier. We were warned yesterday that this might be the longest period of him being in the nicu.
- get off the air all together and breath on his own
- keep all his levels up, breath on his own and be able to take in 58 ml of food by himself (with moms help)
- stay cute and being everyone’s favorite!
- get to go home!!!
these are the next big milestones. There are more things that are going to be down the road. The team is thinking one of his first surgeries is going to be December- April that is gonna be a big one to help his skull stay open for his brain to keep growing. We are not sure if he is going to need a procedure for his nose anymore either! But will wait to hear from EnT next week to see what they think. After this it will be helping his hands and feet. Mind you I am giving you all this information but what his next goals are going to be. Those surgeries will be spaced out and will be over a couple years.
Thank you all for the support, prayers, and messages, we can’t thank you enough for everything. We feel the love and been trying to give Walker that for you guy!
Hope everyone has a great weekend, be safe and have some fun!
Love you all!
Walker, Brandi, Tyler
